Recommended Dosage:

Apply the product to the skin and massage in gently. Since the product contains pure plant extracts, only a small amount should be applied to avoid color staining of clothes.

The plant grows mostly in tropical and subtropical parts of India. It is thin ground perennial with long internodia. Leaves are simple, round or reniform, on basis cordate, with long footstalk. Flowers are small, brownish, umbellate. Fruits contain two seeds.1
The plant contains firstly triterpenic saponines (madecassoside, asiaticoside and their aglycones - madecassic and asiatic acids), than another saponines (asaticoside B, brahminoside, brahmoside, centelloside etc.), triterpenic acids (brahmic, isobrahmic, betulic and another acids), flavonoids and alcaloid hydrocotylin.2
This plant has been used for long time in traditional medicine because of its positive effects on vascular system. Many studies have been made during last 10 years, these studies have investigated mentioned effects.
A study investigated treatment efficiency of diabetical microangiopathy and oedema, a triterpenical fraction was used. For this study patients with microangiopathy, neuropathy and oedema, patients without neuropathy and healthy people were registered. Placebo was administered to the control group. 60 mg of fraction in tablets were administered twice a day to the treated groups for 12 months. Treatment was tolerated very well, without side effects. During treatment the difficulties decreased or disappeared, both objectively and subjectively.3
The same fraction was used for next study, this study investigated effects on venous hypertensive microangiopathy. For this study 40 pacients with venous hypertension, ankle swelling and lipodermatosclerosis were registered. Patients in treated group received 60 mg of fraction in tablets twice a day for 8 weeks, control group received placebo. Both groups were comparable in gender and age. In contol class there were no changes after 8 weeks. In treated groups significant improve was observed. No side effects were observed.4
A study in vitro has been made in year 2004. This study showed that asiaticoside isolated from plant induces fibroblasts proliferation and colagen synthesis. This study was made on molecular level, 30 mg/ml of isolated asiaticoside were used.5
Some studies showed that the plant is responsible for antiproliferative effect on some types of tumour cells. This effect of several compounds from methanolical fraction has been investigated in a study in year 2005.6 Asiatic acid was among these compounds. Another study showed that this acid induces human melanom carcinoma cells apoptosis.7
Antiproliferative efect on keratinocytes can be used for psoriasis treatment. According to a study made in year 2001 two compounds from triterpenic glycosides group are important for keratinocytes production inhibition - madecassoside and asiaticoside.8
Very interesting results has given a study from year 2005, this study has investigated nootropic effect of aqueous extract. Studie was made in mice, extract (200 mg/kg) was given from 15. day to 30. day after birth. Effect was observed from 31. day after birth to 6. month, behaviour, biochemical and histological parameters were evaluated. Performance was improved, but there was no significant effect on locomotor activity. Activity of acetylcholinesterase in hippocampus was increased and dendritic arborization of hippocampal CA3 neurons was also increased. Extract caused significant changes in neuronal morphology and improve of brain functions in young mice.9 Similar study from year 2005 has investigated influence of ethanolical extract and its fractions on nerve regeneration, concretely axonal regeneration. According to this study asiatic acid and probably some other compounds are responsible for this effect. Results show that extract can be useful in neuron damage.10
Centella has big usage in cosmetology. Study that has been made in year 2006 shows collagen production induction mechanism, saponine asiaticoside is responsible for this effect. This study related to skin aging because of collagen I level decrease.11
Report from year 2003 includes centella to group of dietary supplements appropriate for correct and quick wound healing.12
A creme with extract was used in a study that investigated cremes influence on formation and prevention of stretch marks (striae gravidarum). The creme showed preventive effect in women, that had previously suffered stretch marks in pregnancy.13
